After drying and rolling, a distinctive fermentation process gives our Pu-erh Black tea its trademark rich, fragrant flavor profile and mellow finish. It’s no wonder it’s a favorite among tea enthusiasts all over the world.

A Rich Single-Origin Experience

By definition, all Pu-erh tea comes from the Pu’er city in China’s Yunnan Province. Our Pu-erh is actually Shou Pu-erh, which uses a distinct fermentation process that sets it apart from its cousin, Sheng Pu-erh. Shou Pu-erh’s preparation involves “cooking,” or helping the fermentation process along by adding heat and moisture. That’s why it’s considered a black tea, rather than a green tea.

Sourcing Our Pu-Erh Black Tea

Our Pu-erh black tea is sourced from Cangyuan County in China’s Yunnan Province. Cangyuan County is part of a secluded mountainous region, far from major cities. The subtropical highland climate makes it the perfect place to grow and ferment tea.

We pride ourselves on working with small family farmers who employ ethical and sustainable farming methods. The people making our Pu-erh tea have generations of experience in the practice. We believe where tea comes from and how it’s grown matters, resulting in an ethically sourced product that’s also a delight to drink.

Ingredients

Our Pu-erh black tea contains no added ingredients. That means when you sit down to enjoy a cup, you’ll be able to enjoy all the complexity and nuance of this unique varietal and its distinctive preparation.

Each variety of tea has its own aroma, flavor notes, and appearance. By keeping our Pu-erh pure and simple, your tasting experience is just that – pure and simple, for maximum impact.

Health Benefits

Healthy Probiotics

Probiotics, or beneficial gut bacteria, are developed during Pu-erh’s fermentation process. As part of your daily cup of tea, probiotics can encourage your gut flora to flourish, helping improve your blood sugar control, satiety, and overall health.

Improved Cholesterol Levels

Several animal studies have shown that Pu-erh extract can benefit blood fat levels, including cholesterol. Pu-erh increases how much dietary fat is expelled through the digestive system rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream. It also decreases fat accumulation. Though these findings have not yet been replicated in humans, a cup of tea certainly won’t hurt your cholesterol-lowering efforts.

Rich in Antioxidants

Black tea is rich in polyphenols, a type of antioxidant. Polyphenols help remove free radicals in the body and decrease levels of cell damage. They also reduce a person’s risk of developing chronic disease.

Antimicrobial Properties

Black tea’s antimicrobial properties can benefit your gut by killing off harmful substances in your body. In doing so, it helps improve gut bacteria and your immune system functioning, as well as helping repair the lining of the digestive tract.
