Origin Of English Breakfast Tea

With its rich flavor and natural caffeination, an English Breakfast style blend is designed to give a good boost in the morning and to compliment the traditional hearty English breakfast, or any breakfast you care to enjoy.

Its origins lie in the late 19th century, a time when tea clippers were racing across the ocean trade routes and tea-drinking was becoming ever more popular. One theory is that in 1892 a Scottish tea master called Drysdale decided that tea-drinkers needed a stronger brew and marketed his new blend as ideal for breakfast time (rather than just for the afternoon), calling it “Breakfast tea”. Later it became a favorite of Queen Victoria, hence the “English” in the name.

Steeping

The English Breakfast tea is one of the most famous black tea blends and is very easy to steep, even if it is your first ever brewing. Here is how to prepare your delicious Breakfast Tea:

  • Boil fresh, filtered water (200° F / 93° C)
  • Add 2 grams of tea to an infuser, per 8 oz. water
  • Pour the heated water into the mug
  • Steep for 3-5 minutes
  • Strain tea leaves, or take out the infuser
  • Sip and enjoy your organic tea!
